Natraj - The Indian Classical Dance Competition
From the courts of
great kings to the temples of South India and now on the Global
Stage classical dance forms remain the soul of Indian Dance.
The popular classical Indian dances in particular are Bharatanatyam
and Odissi. Bharatanatyam is the most widely practiced of Indian
classical dances worldwide, as it is the style that most faithfully
adheres to the Natya Shastra. It is also the most ancient of all
the classical dance forms in India.
According to legend the Gods, dancers themselves have been passing
the art of the heavenly dance through many other human channels,
whose aptitude, understanding, and personal idiosyncrasies
naturally varied from person to person, and created a number of
styles ranging from Odissi to Bharatanatyam. Some of the major
styles in classical Indian dance are Bharatanatyam, Sattriya,
Odissi, Kuchipudi, Manipuri, Mohiniaattam , kathakali and
Kathak.
Needless to say. without them Indian Dance would be incomplete. The

rich heritage of classical dance in India. If you think you can

be accompanied by singing by the dancers themselves or other
people. Each form of folk dance has a specific costume and rhythm.

extensive jewels and designs. The prominent types of folk dances
