What is it?

As the title itself implies, It is a solo vocal competition based on Eastern / Light Indian music. So far in Antaragni, this competition is the most famous and truly celebrated one among all music events attracting sufficiently large number of performers from all across the nation. The competition is fierce so make sure you have a good level of competency.

Rules

The composition chosen can be any movie song or from any Eastern album. Self-composed songs will be highly appreciated. However it does not add extra weightage to the judgment part. Semi-classical music pieces such as Dadra, Thumri, Kajri, etc. are not allowed, though ghazals are allowed. Karaoke piece is also allowed.

The event consists of two rounds. First round is the preliminary. Participants qualifying in this round would proceed to the final round which will also have a Judges Choice Round in addition to usual Participants' Choice Round.

Guidelines for Distinguished Performance:

1. You must confine your performance within stipulated time limits otherwise it will lead to negative feedback by the judges. And finally it may affect your judgment.

2. Since the judgment is purely based on vocal capabilities of the performer so no credit will be given for accompanists' performance. Overall your composition must be sung prettily.

3. In final round, you would be given by the judges a random piece to perform so keep yourself prepared accordingly .

Judgment Criteria:

Solely on the vocal capabilities of the performer.

This is also a Eastern/Light Indian Music competition, but unlike 'GEET' it is a group competition. This has two sub-events, namely Sangam and Fuson.

  1. Sangam: This an group vocals competition , where the focus on the vocalists and instrumentalists don't are not judged. Being a group event, the no of singers should be more than 1(at least 4).
  2. Fuson : This is a band competiton and unlike Sangam ,whole band is judged.

What is expected out of you?

  1. Proper coordination between various instrumentalists as well as coordination between vocalist and instrumentalists should be there.
  2. The group or band should perform as a whole and not that only few members do the thick of performance.

Judgment criteria:

It depends on the co-ordination between the vocalists of the group, composition chosen and the performance as a whole.

Have you heard an artiste called Bhupen Hazarika? He’s Eastern Indian and his music incorporates a lot of folk influences. Further on, theres a band called East India Company – they also do a lot of East Indian Folk!

Light Indian music would be pop – I might be wrong – best if the event coordinators verified it.
